Martin Luther King Weekend

Our book may be taking on deeper meaning. Some are saying it is even more important now. We are celebrating Martin Luther King our great nonviolent leader but George Bush prepares to expand his war of convenience. It is a little more than one month since we "went public" with our photos and perspectives. Your responses have been wonderful. There has been a consistent theme of appreciation for the Father-Daughter conversation. Many women say "My father never talked to me about serious matters". Others say they will take the time to speak with their children or parents. Several colleagues say they came to support me and Zoe and then were pleased by the quality of the photos and intimacy they found in the book. We have a few more events scheduled and they are listed on the front page. On Feb 2nd we will have an exhibit and book signing in Albany, NY as part of Lark Street's First Friday events. This is a new event that has blossomed in Albany and we are honored to be part of it. Then we moved our show to the College of Staten Island (CUNY), formerly Richmond College, where Lin and I met and fell in love 35 years ago. The exhibit will be in the Park Cafe. near the cafeteria and book store. On February 15th, from 6-8PM. There will be a public reception and book signing. The next day we will film a segment for a national show on Hallmark TV, to be broadcast in March or April. "New Morning" is hosted by Timberly Whitfield and broadcast each weekday morning on cable TV. A colleague in Hanoi has proposed having the book translated into Vietnamese and distributed there. I mailed extra copies to her and asked her to give them to journalist who pass through. There is a story here about the parallels between Vietnam, Iraq; and then consequences and legacies of war. Please help us make this case to any print and/or electronic media outlets you have access to. I will be in Washington DC in February and then again in March and hope to arrange an event there. Any ideas would be appreciated. We have had an article about the book in the Saratogian, will have one in Albany's Metroland soon and anticipate something in the Staten Island Advance in the near future. The Vietnam Veterans of America VVA willhave a review in their March-April issue of The Veteran. In one week we will be sending review copies to national media outlets. Please share any ideas and contacts you may have, either through the blog or to me directly at: edmurphy@aol.com

Ed, congratulations on your blog!
It looks great. I know it will help get the word out about your book.
Obviously, I'm a big fan, but I like to tell people that this
is a really wonderful (and timely) book. Especially the ones who buy it to be polite- what a surprise they are in for!

Love, Lin
